LeAnn Pierce made history by being elected as the first female Mayor of Carolina Beach in November 2019. As she began her term, Mayor Pierce faced the Covid-19 Pandemic, division and fear, and social distancing. Her passion to serve and her impact was soon realized as she led the town through uncharted waters in her first year as Mayor.
Difficult, high pressure situations are not new to Mayor Pierce. She lead her town through the turmoil of Hurricane Florence in 2018 and she was a trusted voice for the citizens in a time of confusion. LeAnn is a communicator and a consensus builder who believes in listening to the people she represents to find solutions.
LeAnn’s call-to-action leadership extends beyond Carolina Beach and it positively impacts the entire region as she served as a member of both the Wilmington Metropolitan Planning Organization (WMPO) and the New Hanover County Tourism Development Authority (TDA).
LeAnn has trailblazed many initiatives, including the “pack it in/pack it out” for clean beaches, dedicated 10 acres of open space as Ryder Lewis Park, dedicated the Island Greenway System, increased the towns fund balance and lobbied for inlet dredging. When the Federal Government denied funding for beach re-nourishment this cycle, she went to bat with other elected officials to secure reprogramming of dollars for beach re-nourishment. Through her leadership, Carolina Beach was named the fourth safest city in NC by safety.com in 2020.
Being a small business owner for over 30 years, LeAnn is pro business and supports entrepreneurship. She understands the struggles of business owners in our region. LeAnn will fight to keep our businesses free from overregulation and over taxation. She is the fiscal conservative we need.
Carolina Beach residents and summer tourism season are thriving because of her vision and direction. She will bring the same proven, ethical leadership to New Hanover County as your next County Commissioner.
